Social Responsibility

Image result for ultimate frisbee
This Monday in Option P.E we played Ultimate Frisbee with Mr Cunard and as we played we were to keep in mind Hellison's Five Levels of Social Responsibility and use it for the basis of our activity and how we performed. Today I think I displayed a level 3 which could've been a 4 or 5 but a lot of the time I tend to forget about the levels and play in a slight unpleasant manner. I was also proud of myself because of my improvement from the last lesson which I was displaying a level 1. Hopefully in the next lesson I could do better and strive for a Level 5.

Hellison's Five Levels

Image result for social responsibility

For the passed few weeks we've been learning about Don Hellison's Five Levels of social responsibility. Social can be defined as; being with other people and responsibility is taking care of the things around us. Our task for today was to apply these levels to our last practical and determine which of the levels we displayed in that practical. When thinking back to that practical (playing Commando Dodge Ball) I reckon I was portraying a level 1. One reason I think this is because; I wasn't really engaged with this specific game and didn't really want to participate but did anyway. A solution that I could use for next lesson (to improve my level of Social Responsibility) is; I could participate to the best of my ability in whatever game or activity we're doing for practical.

Migration Model

This migration model shows the process by which the flow of migration is happening between two countries. There are two names for each flow which is the mainstream flow and the counterstream flow. The mainstream flow is when people leave their place of origin whereas the counterstream flow is when they return to their place of origin after going to their place of destination.

Usually, there is always a reason why people want to leave their place of origin. There are negative and positive reasons why people would want to migrate. The pull reason is the negative reason by which people would migrate. For example, they might not be getting good pay for work in their own homeland or they could be living in poverty. And the positive reasons are when they are attracted to the things in other countries which make them want to migrate to that new place.

Bake Bean Bread Cases

baked beans bread cases from www.tarladalal.com

Today in food tech with Mrs Tuipulotu; we made Bake Bean Bread Cases. Here is the recipe to which we needed to make our product. Bread, Baked Beans, and, cheese. We needed to cut the crusts off the bread and lay them in the muffin trays. Each bread consists of 1 tablespoon of baked beans and then we had to top it up with grated cheese.

Omlet

Another delicious recipe we learned in food tech was a recipe to make an omelet. There were five main elements which were all the ingredients to make our omelet. They were, eggs (of course), red onions, capsicum, bacon, and cheese. One element that really stood out in my creation was the onions which I did not like. In some areas, the onions really overpowered the rest of the elements and so that was the only unpleasant part of my meal.

Banana Muffins

We're back from our public holiday and in our two last periods for today; our teacher guided us through the process of making banana muffins. Every Tuesday's and Thursday's, in period 5 and 6 or just 6; we come into food tech with our tutor teacher and learn a new recipe for a new product we're making. Today my partner and I were successful in baking our banana muffins because as you can probably see; they look beautiful.

Food Tech

Today in food technology with Mrs Tuipulotu we learnt her way of making quiche. It was very different from the recipe I had already learnt before. I also wasn't really satisfied with the outcome of our creation. Some of the quiche didn't have a right balance of eggs and bacon in it which wasn't satisfying. Next time my partner and I need to work on keeping each element equal and balanced so that the outcome would be delicious.

'Learning to Cater'

Today in 5th and 6th period our class had food tech. In this class we made chocolate muffins. To make the muffins we had to follow our three rules which is, to follow instructions, read the ingredients and measure ingredients correctly.

SOS Concepts

Image result for modernisation
Image result for globalisation

This week in social studies I learnt several new concepts. One concept was globalisation. Globalisation is the the act of an event going internationally viral. For example many brands and companies get a lot of publicity or public influence in the world. This shows that the company is very wealthy and entertaining.

Another concept that stood out for me out of the many concepts was; modernisation. Modernisation in my own words is when things become modern and modernisation is really for the present time. E.g we would call the present time the modern days because of modernisation and the growth of technology throughout the years.

Problem Solving

Walt: solve word problems using multiple strategies

Its week 10 the last week of the term. But its not holidays yet and luckily I have finished my work on time. This and last week in numeracy we have been doing a bit of problem solving. We learnt how to solve problems using different strategies. Some of these strategies we did not know the title for but the main one was partitioning. When using the strategy; partitioning, its important to know you place values.

Plays and Poetry

Walt:Analyse and adapt spoken text with expression and confidence

This week our focus is on plays and poetry. Our text is a play and we are learning how to be confident and speak clearly in front of an audience. I know I have achieved this goal when I am able to speak confidently in front of an audience and not hesitate.

Hundredths

Walt: recognize and understand hundredths

This week our focus is on decimals fractions and percentages. The main thing is actually decimals and the column we are learning to understand about is the hundredths column. We also have a key competency to focus on as well which is to competent thinkers. This key competency will be carried out until next week and I know I have achieved this when I am thinking carefully about the equations and making good decisions of who to sit with in class.

Making Pt England Successful

Now that’s thinking Diary

Name: Myztique, Seini, Cameo
Chosen Idea: Lockers

Each week write down what your group achieved.
  • Explain what you contributed towards that week's achievements.
  • Note any problems you or your group are experiencing.
  • What did you learn this week?

Need (Project)
Our Project is to make bag hooks for classrooms in the school who are in need of them. During our research we have learnt that only team 4 and 5 are the only groups that need bag hooks. In team 5 we have most of the student bags on the ground instead of on the bag hooks that we have in our space, some student say the we need more bag hooks so that the students bags can fit on one side of each bag hooks.

We met with Mrs Tele’a to confirm our project and we also shared with her the materials needed and the quantity needed to make this possible. We talked about how many hooks could fit on one pole and how many rows we wanted. Soon we decided to have eight on each pole for now and we also wanted a lock plan for the lockers as many are locked with lost combinations. We also talked about what we needed for our project and what the amount of bag hooks, screws and and hammers we need in this project.

For every Friday our team, team 5 split up into our inquiry groups (swimming groups). Room 3's Inquiry group is just our home class, today we had to continue working on our projects from last week which is making things that would make our school more successful. We had to list all the materials we need and let Mrs Tele'a know so that she would provide them for us.

Using Data

Walt: Collect and organise data

What is data usage? Data is another word for information so we use the data that we've learnt to put into our answers for the equations given to us. We were to complete questions that included probability and graphs.

Warm... Cold

Walt: Evaluating - I gather, and synthesize to evaluate information across a range of text

Making clever clothes.. isn't that clever? There are some pretty clever things that we can create but Stewart Collie make clever clothes like, fire and stab resistant gowns for patients in hospitals, built in mp3 in a jacket, electrical socks to warm your feet and more! Also different housing insulation, there are different material to make these insulators.

Environmental Gas

Walt: Evaluating - I gather, and synthesize to evaluate information across a range of text

For this week in literacy we read about environmental gases. We had to read to different text and the two gases they talked about was Biogas made of fresh dung, and methane gas from rubbish dumps. Biogas is formed when fresh dung goes into a Biogas Plant and goes out one side into you kitchen where the stove is. This gas is used for cooking which is really useful. The Methane gas provides electricity and that is also very useful. I really enjoyed learning about these environmental gases and if there was a power outage I would have a solution in mind.

Statistacs

Walt: Interpret information from different graphs

For this week we were introduced to a new type of graph which is the dot plot. In this presentation there were many things included for our learning such as, statistics, reading diagrams and probability. I had to gather information from the graph to answer the question with and I found really easy to find information from this graph. I am very excited and looking forward to learning more about different graphs and how they're laid out.

Probability

Walt: Calculate the probability of an event happening

Probability... what is it? Probability is the likeliness of something happening. At the end of this presentation we got to do our own experiment around probability using a coin. With a toss of a coin there are only two chances that the coin will land on heads. I think that I have achieved the WALT because I am very positive that my answers are correct and I understand what probability is now.  What I have learnt from this lesson is how to predict what is going to happen in a probability experiment. For example, if you had 7 marbles in your hand, 5 transparent and 2 red what is the chance of you picking out a red marble? Please leave a comment showing you answer and your strategy.

Space Exploration

NASA stands for:
National Aeronautics and Space Administration

TechEdSat5 ISS deployment
Two engineers packing the brake into the 3U.The exo-brake will be deployed from the International space station through a small spacecraft. An exo-brake is a tension-based, flexible braking device that deploys from the rear of the satellite. It has a cross parachute. Why they deploy it from the rear of the satellite? They deploy it from the rear of the satellite because the cross-like parachute drags in space and so it will give them time to scan around the space station and around the satellite itself.

A Brief History Of Space Exploration
In the 1930s to 1940s Nazi Germany saw the possibility of using long-distance rockets as weapon. In 1961 Alan Shepard became the first American to fly into space.

Literacy / Numeracy

For this week we started learning about statistics. Although some of us knew about it already, most of us forgot. This presentation was really good in our session because we learnt a bit more than we already knew. We got create bar graphs and pie graphs using data from a question.
