Time Word Problems

Walt: use our known strategies to work out time lapse problems

It's week eight and there's only this week and next week left of school! For this weeks task our teacher only gave us four equations and they were about time.

Here is an example of the questions that we was given to us; Julius walked to Elijah's house at 10 a.m to spend the day with him. It is a 15-minute walk from his house to Elijah's house. As Julius was making his way out he stopped to help a little girl to get her cat out of a tree which took 10-mins. What time did Julius reach Elijah's house?

If you can solve this problem please leave a comment and share your thoughts on what you think the answer might be.

Word Problems

Walt: find an appropriate strategy to solve a word problem

It's week one of term four which means gloss tests are on! Because of this we had to fill out this presentation and find several appropriate strategies to solve word problems. This task was really helped me to think about the strategies I use to solve a word problem. I have learnt a very valuable lesson from this google presentation and I will try to put my new brain skills into action next time I have to answer a word problem.

Problem Solving

Walt: solve math problems

This week in numeracy we have been learning how to solve math problems. During the process of this task it came to some equations where we had to solve the math problem in the order of BEDMAS. BEDMAS stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. Please feel free to leave feedback for me if you learnt something from this post, and keep checking in for any updates on this presentation.

Fun With Shapes

Walt: Draw a 2D representation of a 3D model. Draw a plan for the side, front and top view of a 3D model.

These slide are just a continuation of our learning from Monday the 28th of august. This presentation will show all of our images and if our buddies had gotten the 3D model correct.

Geometry

Walt - 1): draw a 2D representation of a 3D model
2) draw a plan for the side, front and top view of a 3D model
Our task was to buddy up with someone and draw a 2D representation of a 3D model.  We had to use our maths books to line out the blocks to make a rocket ship from three views; top, side & front. After we drew our designs we had to show it to our buddy so that they could use actual blocks to make our design. This task was obviously based on geometry. I think that the purpose of this activity was to test our selves to see how much we knew about geometry.

Problem Solving

Walt: solve word problems using multiple strategies

Its week 10 the last week of the term. But its not holidays yet and luckily I have finished my work on time. This and last week in numeracy we have been doing a bit of problem solving. We learnt how to solve problems using different strategies. Some of these strategies we did not know the title for but the main one was partitioning. When using the strategy; partitioning, its important to know you place values.

Hundredths

Walt: recognize and understand hundredths

This week our focus is on decimals fractions and percentages. The main thing is actually decimals and the column we are learning to understand about is the hundredths column. We also have a key competency to focus on as well which is to competent thinkers. This key competency will be carried out until next week and I know I have achieved this when I am thinking carefully about the equations and making good decisions of who to sit with in class.

Using Data

Walt: Collect and organise data

What is data usage? Data is another word for information so we use the data that we've learnt to put into our answers for the equations given to us. We were to complete questions that included probability and graphs.

Statistacs

Walt: Interpret information from different graphs

For this week we were introduced to a new type of graph which is the dot plot. In this presentation there were many things included for our learning such as, statistics, reading diagrams and probability. I had to gather information from the graph to answer the question with and I found really easy to find information from this graph. I am very excited and looking forward to learning more about different graphs and how they're laid out.

Probability

Walt: Calculate the probability of an event happening

Probability... what is it? Probability is the likeliness of something happening. At the end of this presentation we got to do our own experiment around probability using a coin. With a toss of a coin there are only two chances that the coin will land on heads. I think that I have achieved the WALT because I am very positive that my answers are correct and I understand what probability is now.  What I have learnt from this lesson is how to predict what is going to happen in a probability experiment. For example, if you had 7 marbles in your hand, 5 transparent and 2 red what is the chance of you picking out a red marble? Please leave a comment showing you answer and your strategy.

Literacy / Numeracy

For this week we started learning about statistics. Although some of us knew about it already, most of us forgot. This presentation was really good in our session because we learnt a bit more than we already knew. We got create bar graphs and pie graphs using data from a question.

Exciting Numeracy

Walt: Interpret information from a graph
This week we have been learning more about statistics and creating different graphs. The graph that we had to make was a stem and leaf graph. Stem is the tens column and the leaf is the ones column.

Multiplication Challenge

Today in numeracy class we started off with a warm up which was a maths grid. This activity helps us to get faster at answering multiplication questions. My time for completing this was 6:22 minutes. Next time we do the maths grid I want to get a faster time then I did before.

Remembering Pass Knowledge

This week for numeracy our class is just revising on the things we learnt last term. Our teacher decided to test our memory and see how much we remember from term one. This term I am going to work on getting better at what I wasn't good at last term.

Fun With Fractions

Walt: Order fractions with different denominators

This week our task was with fractions. On the last slide there is a bit of a trick. Here is my solving out for this problem. Swans = 2/6, Parrots = 1/6, 36 = 3/6, 36 is 1/2 of the whole number so 36 x 2 = 72.

Fun with Maths

Walt: Use our number knowledge to solve equations

This week our task was to complete this google presentation that has different equations. I really enjoyed this weeks task because there were fun equations that I really liked solving such as converting a improper fraction into a mixed fraction..

Thinkboard

As part of our learning we have to complete a google drawing called a Think board. A think board is basically just a diagram showing your thinking about an equation that our teacher gives us. Here is my think board, please leave a comment on this post if you have time.

Problem Solving

Walt: Solve problems with fractions, decimals and percentages.

This week we are still learning more about how to solve equations including fractions, decimals and percentages. The most difficult equation for me to solve was the last one of slide 8 which is the percents problem - 2.

Decimals

This in numeracy our numeracy teacher gave us a task to complete a place value presentation with extra tasks in the slides. One of our tasks in the slide was to fill out a template of place value houses. This week we were learning to demonstrate use of knowledge about place value.

Fractions, Decimals & Percentages

Walt: Understand the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Match up the correct fraction, decimal, and percentage.
This week one of our tasks was to complete our group google presentations. In this presentation I had to go onto different sites to play around with fraction, decimals and percentages. Before I started the google presentation I already knew a few thing about this. So what I wanted to find out was how to convert a decimal into a percentage and how to convert a percentage into a fraction. Flick through these slides and have a look at what the Compasses task was in this presentation.
I hope you can learn something from it yourself.
