Walt: I am able to identify the ideas opinions of author and share my own in comparison
For the past few weeks in literacy our class have been focusing on the perspectives of authors and writing our own opinions to compare with the authors. If you go through this presentation you will find that I have agreed with all the articles that I read.

What is Guy Fawkes?
Walt: -connecting and comparing. I relate information and ideas from texts to my own experience to form an opinion
Guy Fawkes, what or who is it? You may be thinking that Guy Fawkes is all about fireworks and all that, well your right! But that isn't all; explore this 6 slides presentation to find out what I have learnt all about Guy Fawkes.

Can apes really understand sign language?
Walt: Find evidence in a text
Use the process of elimination to find the 'best fit' answer
This week our task was to read a text called Koko and collect as much information as we can to complete this google presentation. This text was about an ape that was taught American sign language. While reading this text I found out that people argue with the teacher of this ape of whether Koko actually understands sign language. What I found interesting was the fact that apes have so many similarities to human.

Fare welling Ms Vani
During assembly this morning there was a lot of things going on but one of the most important things was giving a fare well to our social worker Ms Vani. Although she has only been here for a short while she has really helped to make a difference in our school.
Ms Vani was a really important person in our school and we are supporting her in her journey to a new job. She has helped a lot of students during her short time in our school and we all appreciate her and her caring nature. I'm sure that everyone who worked with her will treasure their memories that they had with Ms Vani.

Vagahau Niue
As you may have already known; this week is Niue language week. This week we are learning about the perspective of an author writing about the language week this week. While reading through some of the articles, I even got to learn a quote in Niue. 'Ko koe, ko au, ko tautolu, ko e tau Niue'. I was really amazed at how much the Niue language is very similar to the Tongan language.

A Start to a New Term
As is the case every term, the whole school gathers in the hall for an amazing start to a brand new term. To introduce our focus for the term we had a lovely performance from the Senior Management Team (Mr Burt, Mr Jacobson, Mrs Nua, & the musical expert Mr Wiseman). They performed a song called ‘Musical Madness Saves the Day’ which gave away the topic of the term (Musical Madness.)
Team 2’s (our year two’s) learning intention is similar to team 1’s but they sang a capturing song with them playing instruments with the amazing singer Mrs Gaston. They sang to us ‘In the Jungle the Mighty Jungle’.
Then it came to my favourite performance; team 3 (year 3&4). I reckon that this team was the most entertaining because they made a film about songs in real life. Instead of them talking to one another they took bits of lyrics from songs and put it into their video. Their learning focus this term is based on how music impacts on our daily lives.
After that team 4 (our year 5 & 6’s) presented a movie that they had created throughout the holidays. It was about how music can make things fun such as car rides and so on. Their focus was basically the same as team 3 which is learning about how music impact in our daily lives.
Last but not least was team 5 (Intermediate). Our team of teachers performed an informative play, they pretended to be a family who were watching a film. They watched this film repetitively but every time they watched it there was different music playing in the background. The different music that was played made them feel different emotions. So our focus this term in team 5 is learning about music and how it can change a film.

Pt England vs Tauranga Intermediate
Last week our Rugby 7's boys went over to Tauranga to play against other teams in 7's tournament. Fortunately our boys reached the final and they had to play against Tauranga Intermediate. Our task for this Google Presentation was to read an article then reflect on what was written on it. For the last slide we had to list some features that the writer might have missed out in the article.

Our Solar System
This is our Solar System. This image is an image of poster that a friend and I created. I'm sure that you've seen a diagram like this. This display was just to show our understanding of the Solar System. You can check out more of my learning about the solar system later on in my learning journey. Thank you.

Oral Language
WALT: write a speech to present to take part in our speech competition
Speech Finalists: After the teacher had marked us, there were 3 top students selecte to take part in the competition against the other speech finalists from the other classes. Fortunately I was chosen to be one of these finalists along with Yvonne and Atareita.
Which speech appealed mos to me?: When it came to when we had to present our speeches; most of us were quite nervous. But when we presented it wasn't really obvious. I really enjoyed Mubashir's speech. He spoke about wanting to be a president for one day. He stated some really good points on how to be a cool president. I reckon if Mubashir we to be a president he would be a great one.
Task: In team 5 we had a speech competition. For this activity; every student had to write a speech of any topic. All of us students had to present our speech to our literacy class and we were given a mark by our teacher. We were marked out of 25. To get high scores we had to memorize our speech & look up at the audience. We also had to project our voices so that the teacher heard us from the back of the classroom.

There were two judges Mrs Judd and Ms Tapuke. They are the one's who are deciding which person wins the part as being the speaker who gets topeak at our school assembly one Friday. I can't wait to find out who that lucky person is.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Can you imagine starting off the day of the term with an alien invasion? It was pitch black in the hall, a UFO (drone) flew onto the stage and two hideous aliens appeared out of the UFO. Luckily it was just an act for part of our school topic this term which is ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’
Team 1’s focus for this term's topic is on the moon, sun and where they at night and day. For their performance they showed a movie of their teachers flying off to space in their cars. The second team was quite similar to team 1’s focus about the two elements and the earth. Their movie was quite different though, they were dancing in space and it showed that they were in different planets enjoying themselves and life in space.
Team 3’s movies talked about time and what they did during school times. During the film they showed their favourite part of the day at school and their most favourite was 3pm when they went running home happily and screaming. Their main focus is on time and why scientists time.
Our team, team five had the most entertaining performance of all, I reckon. Mrs Judd sang a lovely cover of “How far I’ll I go” written over by Mr Wiseman. The lyrics said what our focus was which was about the moon and the impacts it has on the earth.
But I think that team 4 had the most informative item. They thought about life on the other planets in the galaxy and put that all into one movie. Unfortunately, every time they approached a planet they’re ships exploded. So their main topic was to take care of our own planet and being guardians of our own galaxy.

Sweet as Poetry
Walt: Oral Language - analyse and adopt spoken texts with expression and confidence
This week in literacy we have still been carrying out our knowledge of poems and expressing ourselves more. We have learnt more about how we need to talk with expression, projecting our voice and making our words loud and clear.

Plays and Poetry
Walt:Analyse and adapt spoken text with expression and confidence
This week our focus is on plays and poetry. Our text is a play and we are learning how to be confident and speak clearly in front of an audience. I know I have achieved this goal when I am able to speak confidently in front of an audience and not hesitate.

Making Pt England Successful
Now that’s thinking Diary
Name: Myztique, Seini, Cameo

Each week write down what your group achieved.
- Explain what you contributed towards that week's achievements.
- Note any problems you or your group are experiencing.
- What did you learn this week?
Need (Project)
|
Our Project is to make bag hooks for classrooms in the school who are in need of them. During our research we have learnt that only team 4 and 5 are the only groups that need bag hooks. In team 5 we have most of the student bags on the ground instead of on the bag hooks that we have in our space, some student say the we need more bag hooks so that the students bags can fit on one side of each bag hooks.
|
…
|
We met with Mrs Tele’a to confirm our project and we also shared with her the materials needed and the quantity needed to make this possible. We talked about how many hooks could fit on one pole and how many rows we wanted. Soon we decided to have eight on each pole for now and we also wanted a lock plan for the lockers as many are locked with lost combinations. We also talked about what we needed for our project and what the amount of bag hooks, screws and and hammers we need in this project.
|
For every Friday our team, team 5 split up into our inquiry groups (swimming groups). Room 3's Inquiry group is just our home class, today we had to continue working on our projects from last week which is making things that would make our school more successful. We had to list all the materials we need and let Mrs Tele'a know so that she would provide them for us.

Warm... Cold
Walt: Evaluating - I gather, and synthesize to evaluate information across a range of text
Making clever clothes.. isn't that clever? There are some pretty clever things that we can create but Stewart Collie make clever clothes like, fire and stab resistant gowns for patients in hospitals, built in mp3 in a jacket, electrical socks to warm your feet and more! Also different housing insulation, there are different material to make these insulators.

Environmental Gas
Walt: Evaluating - I gather, and synthesize to evaluate information across a range of text
For this week in literacy we read about environmental gases. We had to read to different text and the two gases they talked about was Biogas made of fresh dung, and methane gas from rubbish dumps. Biogas is formed when fresh dung goes into a Biogas Plant and goes out one side into you kitchen where the stove is. This gas is used for cooking which is really useful. The Methane gas provides electricity and that is also very useful. I really enjoyed learning about these environmental gases and if there was a power outage I would have a solution in mind.

Heat On The Move
This is our group diagram that we created about the Heat Transfer Process. We found these facts on the text that we read called Warming up and Cooling Down. My partner Mitchell and I created this diagram. Please feel welcome to leave a comment if you like.
Staying Warm, Keeping Cool
This presentation was our task for this week. We had to write about the differences of how human, huskies and seals keep warm. For the last few slides we had to find a partner from our group to work with. Check out our diagram that my partner and I created.
