Walt: solve word problems using multiple strategies


Its week 10 the last week of the term. But its not holidays yet and luckily I have finished my work on time. This and last week in numeracy we have been doing a bit of problem solving. We learnt how to solve problems using different strategies. Some of these strategies we did not know the title for but the main one was partitioning. When using the strategy; partitioning, its important to know you place values.

Ancient Olympics Activity 3

When the Olympics were held in Greece 2792 years ago women weren't a loud to participate or even watch the Olympics. I think this was a cruel rule back then, because women should've been able to do what men could do back then and just as well as the men could. And it's also not fair for the women just to stay home alone and only the men to contribute in the Olympics. 

Ancient Olympics Activity 2

(Fact No. 1) Milo of Croton was a Greek wrestler in the 16th century BC. He came from the Greek city in the southern Italy. (Fact No. 2) Milo was said to be a friend of Pythagoras. Milo of Croton saved his Pythagoras's life when a roof was about to fall on him. (FACT No. 3) The date of Milo's death is unknown, but people said that he had been splitting a tree in half when his hand became trapped in the tree.

Acient Olympics - Activity 1

About 2792 years ago, the Olympic was held in a place called Greece. Imagine you were invited to the join the Olympic, which one out of these would you pick to participate in: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon.

  If I was invited to play in the Olympic 2792 years ago I would choose to join the running activity, the diaulos where the athletes run two lengths of the stadium. Reason; I am comfortable in running and more experienced in this sport than I am with the other ones. 

A CATastrophe

For this task we were able to create characters for a descriptive narrative. The narrative that I have created is about a mischievous cat. Click on this site to have a go at making your own character and probably making your own narrative to go with your characters.

A CATatrophe

Joel rapidly unlocked the front door and saw the blood covered rat lying still on the cold hard ground in front of him. As he got further inside his house, a terrible stench slowly began to creep up his nose. He immediately covered his hand over his nose but after a while the smell disappeared.

When Joel reached the study area of his house he noticed that a window had been left open. He had been to Uni classes, but on his return he noticed mysterious scratches covering the window sill.

A straight A student at Auckland University, Joel had just returned home from a study break. When he saw the dead rat he felt sick. Then Joel realized that the living room was a total mess. The book shelf had fallen, couches and curtains had been ripped and glass scattered on the floor from a window that had been broken. He ran his fingers over his short black hair. “How did this happen?” he groaned.

 As he walked over to shut the window he heard loud ripping sounds coming from the direction of the living room. “What was that?” he whispered. Joel walked towards the direction of the noise but before he could take a step a vicious wild cat jumped at his face and scratched one of his bright blue eyes. “Youch!!” Joel cried.

He quickly stood and ran to the telephone where he rang the nearest pest control company. “Hi, how may I help you?” said a low deep voice. “Can I please have your finest pest controller now please it’s urgent” Joel said in a desperate voice. A few minutes later the pest controller turned up with all his traps and tools to capture the mischievous cat.

After the catastrophe was over, Joel sat calmly on one of the  wrecked couches in the living room. He gazed at all the books on the bookshelves that had fallen over and he remembered his study books and uni class, but he was already too late. Instead he stayed home to clean up the disaster in his living room. He definitely wouldn’t forget that experience in a while.

WALT: Write a narrative that has detail explaining the basics things needed in a good narrative. For this task we are learning to write a descriptive narrative and create an artwork that relates to our narrative. As you can see above my narrative I have created an image based on Collin Thompson's art work; Grandma's Treasure. 

Fact or Opinion

Walt: scan text to find information that express a fact or opinion
Fact or Opinion.
A fact means that something is true and has been proved. An opinion is something that hasn't been proved. Example of Fact: "An apple is a fruit". Example of Opinion: "Mrs Tele'a is the best Teacher ever".

Compare & Contrast

In this presentation it shows the differences about when our parents went to school and about us in school in the present.

This terms theme is about making kindness go viral. In this movie you'll see some footage of kindness between the students here at Pt England School and how much we love school. It wasn't completed but I hope you enjoy.

Cross Country

Thirsty and tired everyone felt the same because of one really hard activity. Pt England School has had their cross country a few weeks ago and after it happened everyone was exhausted. Some people had a really hard time running so they either stopped and walked some of them even cried and slipped over too.

To school we normally where our uniforms but in cross country we wore our house colors. At Pt England we have house colors that we use for groups. In special days like cross country or athletics we wear our house colors.  

During cross country I kept encouraging myself to keep on going. There were only a few people that I passed in the cross country. While I was running I couldn’t breath and I could taste blood. Luckily after the run we got to have a drink of water and that saved my life!

In cross country there wasn’t a time I ever stopped moving my feet. Some people fell over, stopped for a break and most just wanted to get over with it. It was only a few times that I had to walk in cross country because I had to catch my breath.

One of my favorite parts of the cross country was when it was over, I also liked watching and encouraging the other students who were running. Next time I am hoping not to ever stop to walk and just keep on going. I am really looking forward for the next cross country and I’m hoping to be in the top 3.
