Book Review

Walt: read for enjoyment

This week in literacy one of our tasks were to read for enjoyment. As you can see the book that I've read is called The Birthday Party Of No Return. Have you read this book before? I think it is a good book for people around my age (11, 12, 13,) to read this book because its not too complex to read. If your interested then do not hesitate to read it.

Thinkboard

This week we have been learning how to add fraction. Here is an example of how to add fractions;
3/8 + 2/4 =, I can work this out by rewriting the equation. Firstly, I multiply the denominators, 8 x 4 = 32, now 32 will be the new denominator. Now you cross multiply, 3 x 4 = 12, that's the first numerator,
8 x 2 = 16 that's the second numerator. Now you add it up 12/32 + 16/32 = 28/32 the numerator is now the same so you don't have to change it when you add it all together.

Poetry

A few weeks ago we have learnt about poems. There are five parts of a poem that we've learnt about. They are; similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, rhyming words & alliteration. Please check out the google presentation above to see what they are.

Fractions

Walt: equally share items into groups to make fractions

Here is the  week 6 numeracy tasks. In this presentation we learnt how to add fractions. For example if you had an equation that was the same denominator you have to leave it the same and only add the numerator. The numerator is the top and the denominator is the bottom.

Fraction

Walt: find fractions of a number
This is the week 7 task or activity that we have started and I have completed it. We are learning to find fractions of a number.

Duck Trouble - 'Show Not Tell'

As I took out the piece of bread that I had been saving to devour later on, hungry ducklings rapidly scurried over to me. I bent over to give them a piece of bread not noticing that as I stood back up my other hand was empty. Looking back at all the ducks, a variety of ravenous ducks were now eagerly fighting over my meal.

I reached into my bag remembering my leftover delicious butter chicken pie. As I opened up the paper packet an appetizing smell filled the atmosphere. Now a swarm of vicious ducks were heading my way. “Shoo shoo!” I shouted. The terrified ducks hurried away as fast as they could. Now that I had my peace, I devoured the tasty pie all alone as if a bear had just eaten right after hibernation.

Monsoon Flood

This week Ruapehu read a book called "Monsoon Flood." We had to read the book and answer the questions that's in the presentation.

Narrative Planning

This is a planning of a narrative that I have written. The title for my narrative is "A Life-like Dream." Click this link to view my writing.

A Life-like Dream

Jamie was laying in bed sleeping, she was in a deep dream but she thought it was real life. In her dream Jamie was with her parents, she stayed very close to them. Her ‘Life Like Dream’ was set in a dark forest but there was only a stiff light ahead of them.

Later on her parents suddenly disappeared into the shadows of the forest leaving behind a foam. As soon as her parents disappeared she panicked, she tried following the light that was ahead of her but as she got closer the light seemed to be going farther and farther away. One of her biggest fears were dark forests especially when she was alone in one.

Soon she started calling out for her parents “Mum, Dad!” As she was yelling in her dream, she was also yelling aloud. Her parents heard her, they ran straight into her room and when they saw that she was having a nightmare they woke her up. When Jamie woke up she sighed in relief and she pinched herself in case she was still dreaming. Jamie looked at her parents and hugged them as tightly as she could they both smiled at her then hugged her back.

Walt: choose out of any of your personalities

Kia Ora my name is Seini, I’m 11 years old and a year 7 at Pt England school, and my favorite subject at school is maths. I have only 3 sisters but no brothers, I’m good at climbing and one person that I really admire is my older sister. My learning goals for this year is to complete most of the tasks I have to complete and participate in most of the activities that my class do and many more.

Problem Solving

Walt: solve story problems using only multiplication and division strategies
This weeks presentation is based on multiplication and division. On each slide I have solved the problems using a multiplication strategy.

Algorithm Solving

This is a screenshot of a google doc that I have been working on solving a problem using the strategy called algorithm. I learnt how to solve a problem using an algorithm and I tried it out on a google drawing. Hopefully this post could help you to learn how to use an algorithm to solve a problem if you don't already know how to.

Problem Solving

Walt: use the correct strategy to solve word problems
For this week we have learnt how to use the correct strategy to solve word problems. To solve the problems I have used only partitioning. I know now that next time we have a similar presentation I should also use other strategies like an algorithm to solve a problem instead of just using one strategy.

Thinkboard

Walt: work with fractions

As you can see we have been learning to work with fractions this week. If you don't know what fractions are click this link to take a look at the fractions presentation that I completed earlier for this week.

My Visual Mihi

Here is my visual mihi. A visual mihi is something that represents yourself which includes; your hobbies, culture, belief, what you like to eat, and everything that represents just you. Please comment and tell me what you think my hobbies, belief and culture is, its really simple so hopefully you know what they are.

Algebra

Walt: solve algebraic equations
For this task we had to work with algebra. Do you know what algebra is? Well if you don't, it is a letter or a symbol that represents a number. In this presentation you will see a lot of different letters that represents numbers.

Fractions

Walt: equally share items into groups to make fractions
As you can tell by the WALT, that we are learning about fractions. If you don't already know a fraction has two parts a denominator and a numerator. The numerator is the top it is numbers of parts of the whole, and the denominator (the bottom) tells us how many groups it has been divided into.

Algorithm

This presentation shows us how to use an algorithm for solving problems. I haven't done anything on this presentation but I  have posted a google drawing that has my working out on it using an algorithm to solve a problem. Click this link if you'd like to view it and maybe learn something from it.

WE WILL MISS YOU MISS STUHLMANN!!

This is a photo of our beloved student teacher that have been teaching us for the past five weeks. These are all her favorite students in our classroom, her name is Miss Stuhlman. There are many ways that I could describe her she is; kind, loving, caring and many other kind things that you could think of. She is also a really talented ballet dancer and every Friday she gives us yummy treats. Shes a fast reader also and really smart. Today is her  very last day with us and we will miss her very, very much. The people in this photo is: me, Taunese, Yvonne and the one and only sensible boy Hosea. We LOVE you Miss Stuhlmann!!

Thinkboard

For this thinkboard I solved the problem using an algorithm. Another way to solve this is partitioning, partitioning is solving in parts. Check out my other thinkboard to see how partitioning works.
