The Roles of Parliament

As an added bonus to our learning about government in social studies today; we learned about the roles of each branch in the government and what their jobs are. The three branches are the Executive Council, Legislative, and the Judiciary branch. All three branches have their own specific role which is displayed in the drawing above.

Justice in the Tasman Sea

Most recently, JM Andrew Little and Deputy PM Winston Peters conflicted with the misleading of former immigration minister (Peter Dutton) to deport New Zealanders living in Australia. Some weren’t even given the chance to have their say in court to prove whether their innocent or not.

Now that there is a new PM (Scott Morrison) in Australia, the New Zealand government is hoping to make dialogue to mend the relationship between the trans-Tasman countries (Australia & New Zealand). I agree with their idea of making dialogue with the new government, especially with the familiarity of Scott and our country. It really helps to have someone who sees both sides of the story.

Banana Muffins

We're back from our public holiday and in our two last periods for today; our teacher guided us through the process of making banana muffins. Every Tuesday's and Thursday's, in period 5 and 6 or just 6; we come into food tech with our tutor teacher and learn a new recipe for a new product we're making. Today my partner and I were successful in baking our banana muffins because as you can probably see; they look beautiful.

Oral Language

WALT: write a speech to present to take part in our speech competition

Task: In team 5 we had a speech competition. For this activity; every student had to write a speech of any topic. All of us students had to present our speech to our literacy class and we were given a mark by our teacher. We were marked out of 25. To get high scores we had to memorize our speech & look up at the audience. We also had to project our voices so that the teacher heard us from the back of the classroom.

Speech Finalists: After the teacher had marked us, there were 3 top students selecte to take part in the competition against the other speech finalists from the other classes. Fortunately I was chosen to be one of these finalists along with Yvonne and Atareita.

Which speech appealed mos to me?: When it came to when we had to present our speeches;  most of us were quite nervous. But when we presented it wasn't really obvious. I really enjoyed Mubashir's speech. He spoke about wanting to be a president for one day. He stated some really good points on how to be a cool president. I reckon if Mubashir we to be a president he would be a great one.
There were two judges Mrs Judd and Ms Tapuke. They are the one's who are deciding which person wins the part as being the speaker who gets topeak at our school assembly one Friday. I can't wait to find out who that lucky person is.

Geometry

Walt - 1): draw a 2D representation of a 3D model
2) draw a plan for the side, front and top view of a 3D model
Our task was to buddy up with someone and draw a 2D representation of a 3D model.  We had to use our maths books to line out the blocks to make a rocket ship from three views; top, side & front. After we drew our designs we had to show it to our buddy so that they could use actual blocks to make our design. This task was obviously based on geometry. I think that the purpose of this activity was to test our selves to see how much we knew about geometry.

Making Pt England Successful

Now that’s thinking Diary

Name: Myztique, Seini, Cameo
Chosen Idea: Lockers

Each week write down what your group achieved.
  • Explain what you contributed towards that week's achievements.
  • Note any problems you or your group are experiencing.
  • What did you learn this week?

Need (Project)
Our Project is to make bag hooks for classrooms in the school who are in need of them. During our research we have learnt that only team 4 and 5 are the only groups that need bag hooks. In team 5 we have most of the student bags on the ground instead of on the bag hooks that we have in our space, some student say the we need more bag hooks so that the students bags can fit on one side of each bag hooks.

…
We met with Mrs Tele’a to confirm our project and we also shared with her the materials needed and the quantity needed to make this possible. We talked about how many hooks could fit on one pole and how many rows we wanted. Soon we decided to have eight on each pole for now and we also wanted a lock plan for the lockers as many are locked with lost combinations. We also talked about what we needed for our project and what the amount of bag hooks, screws and and hammers we need in this project.

For every Friday our team, team 5 split up into our inquiry groups (swimming groups). Room 3's Inquiry group is just our home class, today we had to continue working on our projects from last week which is making things that would make our school more successful. We had to list all the materials we need and let Mrs Tele'a know so that she would provide them for us.

My Visual Mihi

Welcome to my Visual Mihi. Have you ever heard of what a visual mihi is? Well if you haven't, here is an example of my own visual mihi and I will tell all about what the pictures mean. In a visual mihi there are four different pictures or drawings that you have created to symbolise what you enjoy or what you believe in. As you might have already noticed, I believe in christ because of the drawing of the cross in the background, I am also really keen to be out playing sports with family and friends. I come from the islands of tonga and I grew up in a musical family. The last thing you should also include in your visual mihi is a picture of yourself. To complete this task I used hyperstudio to draw all the different symbols on six different slides, then on the last slide I combined all the pictures, my hobbies or religious in the background and myself in the front. Another way to join all your drawings is on comic life where you can put your images into different shapes and sizes.
Please feel free to leave a comment below if you have the time.

Fractions

Walt: equally share items into groups to make fractions

Here is the  week 6 numeracy tasks. In this presentation we learnt how to add fractions. For example if you had an equation that was the same denominator you have to leave it the same and only add the numerator. The numerator is the top and the denominator is the bottom.

Duck Trouble - 'Show Not Tell'

As I took out the piece of bread that I had been saving to devour later on, hungry ducklings rapidly scurried over to me. I bent over to give them a piece of bread not noticing that as I stood back up my other hand was empty. Looking back at all the ducks, a variety of ravenous ducks were now eagerly fighting over my meal.

I reached into my bag remembering my leftover delicious butter chicken pie. As I opened up the paper packet an appetizing smell filled the atmosphere. Now a swarm of vicious ducks were heading my way. “Shoo shoo!” I shouted. The terrified ducks hurried away as fast as they could. Now that I had my peace, I devoured the tasty pie all alone as if a bear had just eaten right after hibernation.

The Thirst

Walt: justify their ideas from within the text and by inference
In this google slide it shows answers for questions about a book we read called 'Thirst.' The characters in the book are really poor and they didn't have enough money to afford more water because they didn't have much water for survival & it was at the drought season so it hardly rained.

Statistics

Walt: understand statistics vocabulary

I never knew what statistics were before but I knew it had something to do with maths. Now that I've learnt about it I know all about statistics and the meaning of it and its really easy. Mode, median, average & the mean is all part of statistics. Take a look at the google slide if you don't already know what statistics are and it will hopefully help you understand what statistics are.

Treaty 2 U

Every Friday we stay in our home classes and we either work on a task that our teacher gives us or we finish off our learning from our maths class or literacy class.  This is one of our home class tasks that we were told to do by our home class teacher. As you can see this google slide is about Waitangi, we had to work in groups I hope you enjoy and leave a comment. Here is a link to our recording of it.

Maths Teacher learning

Walt: solve multiplication problems using a range of strategies
This week we've been focusing on multiplication and division.
Division is the opposite from multiplication.
