Thinkboard

This week we have been learning how to add fraction. Here is an example of how to add fractions;
3/8 + 2/4 =, I can work this out by rewriting the equation. Firstly, I multiply the denominators, 8 x 4 = 32, now 32 will be the new denominator. Now you cross multiply, 3 x 4 = 12, that's the first numerator,
8 x 2 = 16 that's the second numerator. Now you add it up 12/32 + 16/32 = 28/32 the numerator is now the same so you don't have to change it when you add it all together.

  1. Hi Seini, I enjoyed reading your explanation and reasoning for solving the problem 4/9 + 8/12 = 112 /108. The strategy you chose to use is an appropriate strategy. Take a minute if you have time, to recheck your maths. Do you enjoy ThinkBoards?
