Introducing Algebra!

This week we started off the year with an easy task. We started with a basic step of algebra.

2017 Here I Come

Kia Ora, welcome to my blog!  This year I am in home class 3 and my teacher is Mrs Tele'a.  I have three really encouraging sisters two are younger than me and one is older.  At school I really like playing lots of sports such as netball, tag, and many more.  Some of my hobbies are hanging out with my friends and learning new things in class.  My main goal for this year is to gain more confidence in my learning. The topic for this year is Responsibility.

This year I not only want to express myself in learning but also in fitness and sport. So one of my other goals are to try out other sports because last year I only played netball. Physical education is one of my first priorities for this year because I want to improve my health and fitness skills.

Last year I was part of the year 7 & 8 extension and in prize giving I came 3rd in academic. This year I am aiming for a higher spot in the top 3 for academic and also improve my writing. Feel free at anytime to leave a comment or two on my blog.

What’s the difference between the three states of matter?

Solid molecules are close together and arranged in a regular way.	Liquids molecules are close together but not as tight as Solids molecules and not as.	Gases molecules do not touch. Their molecules are far apart from each other.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you learned from this reading task.

We have learnt that molecules are the smallest particles can get. Another word for molecules is particles. The elements from the Periodic table are molecules. Some molecules from the periodic tables are natural and some have formed by mankind. More molecules are yet to be discovered.

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)

When some metals are exposed with water and oxygen, it forms rust. Rust is a type of corrosion. Rusting occurs when H2O (water) and O (oxygen) is in contact with iron or steel. The rusting process becomes faster when salty water or acid rain is applied.

                                                                                                        

How could you prevent something from rusting?

By preventing metal from rusting you can paint it or put a layer of oil or grease over the metal. It is a good idea to use this as a solution so that the oxygen could bounce off the metal instead of rusting it, depending on what kind of environment  the metal is in.

We learnt that the term corrosion is used to describe metal breaking down when it is exposed to the environment. We also learnt that rusting can be prevented when you either paint, grease/oil or a process called galvanizing. An example of galvanizing is when you put zinc and iron together, the zinc protects the iron but it sacrifices itself because zinc reacts more than the iron.

In this task I learnt about rust and how metal can corrode. Rust is a type of corrosion, corrosion happens to metals when they are exposed with water and air for a long time. Rust slowly breaks down metals into other chemicals. Another name for rust is hydrated iron oxide.
